Failure on git subtree push with crazy output -

i created git subtree following instructions here - https://help.github.com/articles/working-with-subtree-merge

perhaps unfortunely, did normal tortoisegit push on repository contained subtree. reason, changed file subtree listed in tortoisegit's changelist (it legitimately changed, btw), thought "oh! neat! tortoisegit automatically supports subtree!", went ahead , committed , did normal tortoisegit push.

then test tortoisegit did thought, got clone of repository subtree located, , pulled. sadly, did not change subtree thought pushed in tortoisegit...

so wasn't sure happened, resorted installing git-subtree , trying different variations of push command on subtree until seemed work -

git subtree push --prefix=prime origin/prime prime/master git subtree push --prefix=prime prime prime/master git subtree push --prefix=prime/ -u prime/master git subtree push --prefix=prime/ prime/master git subtree push --prefix=prime/ prime prime/master git subtree push --prefix=prime/ https://github.com/bryanedds/prime.git prime/master git subtree push --prefix=prime/ https://github.com/bryanedds/prime.git master 

i should have known better guess, presume 1 of these lines accidentally pushed new branch or something, , maybe causing problems pertinent question...

still, carried on, trying follow instructions found elsewhere on net make sure did things okay -

git subtree pull -p prime https://github.com/bryanedds/prime.git master 

which seemed work. still not sure pushed correctly, tried pushing again according new page found - git subtree push -p prime https://github.com/bryanedds/prime.git master

and gives me kinds of crazy output rejection error -

i tried pulling again, no avail. also, importantly, numbers, parens, , slashes??? i'm totally stuck , lost now, , it's fault bumbling around, sincerely appreciate on matter!

lastly, may have done other bad things while digging myself hole... wish had log of did, cmd doesn't think ever need know more last 50 lines of session........ >:(

the link gave subtree merge, not confused git subtree command, part of git extension.

if git branch , can see local prime branch apart master branch of parent project, can

git subtree split --prefix=prime --onto prime --branch prime

and push prime repository with

git push -f prime prime:master

if not see prime branch locally, can new split git subtree doing

git subtree split --prefix=prime --branch prime

it create new hanging branch called prime can keep track of remote prime repository. update prime remote repository, can either do

git push -f prime prime:master
